The EU law on the handling of personal data
Data protection
Better rules for small business
Stronger rules on data protection from 25 May 2018 mean citizens have more control over their data and business benefits from a level playing field. One set of rules for all companies operating in the EU, wherever they are based.
The EU law on the handling of personal data, The General Data Protection Regulation, is often referred to as GDPR.
Most of my clients do not do business in the European Union however, it may be a good idea to consider creating a “Privacy Policy” page on your website as a step in this direction. There are many aspects to this new set of laws and they all focus on the data you collect from visitors on your website.
Depending on whether or not you sell items on your website will make a difference as to the type of information you should provide your visitors. Here on TheRavenworks.net I do not have an online store. Therefore my Privacy Policy Page only details the minimum of information required. (Take a look and you will see what I mean).
On our PhotoFlashbacks Privacy Policy Page we do sell items and you will notice that there is a section that explains where that visitor data is sent as well as a link to the Privacy Policy page of the recipient of that data… in our case it is PayPal.
I advise you to do some research on the new GDPR and consider creating a “Privacy Policy” page for your website.
